Accelerating Clean Energy Innovation & Systemic Decarbonization with NextGen Procurement

Decarbonizing electricity is critical to tackling the climate crisis: electricity is not only the highest-emitting sector, but it forms the backbone of global economies and provides critical services to billions every day. Decarbonizing electricity is also central to ambitions to decarbonize various sectors, such as transportation. To get to a carbon-free electricity future, we must eliminate carbon from the power sector entirely, every hour of every day, for all - even as demand grows in many regions.

Large energy buyers, including governments, are central to this challenge because their purchasing power and clean energy demand can send market signals accelerating critical investments in systemic grid decarbonization.

This session will explore how voluntary procurement drives clean energy innovation in ways that complement policymaker action and key updates needed to voluntary clean energy markets–such as enhanced, granular energy attribute certificates–to activate next generation procurement options like 24/7 matching and more.
