Michael J. Avery is President, 1PointFive – a large-scale direct air capture (DAC) development subsidiary of Oxy Low Carbon Ventures. In this role, Mr. Avery is responsible for strategy, business development, growth, and commercialization of 1PointFive’s business.

Mr. Avery has seventeen years of experience with Occidental. Previously, he served as President and General Manager of Permian Resources – Texas Delaware Basin. He joined Occidental in 2005 and has served as Development Manager, Operations Manager, and engineer in both domestic and international business units, including assignments in the UAE, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain before joining Oxy’s team in Houston.

Mr. Avery holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stellenbosch University in South Africa and an Executive Master of Business Administration from Hult International Business School in Dubai. He sits on the Board of Directors of Carbon Engineering and the Children’s Museum of Houston.
